One Great Hour of Sharing

Dear Members and Friends of Bethany,

On Ash Wednesday, we entered the season of Lent, a time of reflection and contemplation as we examine our relationship to God, God’s creation, and each other. Each year, we are invited to participate in the One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) special offering, which focuses on “providing relief from natural disasters, food for the hungry, and support for the poor and oppressed.” Funds collected during this offering are divided between three Presbyterian programs:

1. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA), which works alongside communities as they recover and find hope after the devastation of natural or human-caused disasters, and support for refugees;

2. Presbyterian Hunger Program (PHP), which takes action to alleviate hunger, care for creation, and the systemic causes of poverty so all may be fed;

3. Self-Development of People (SDOP), which invests in communities responding to their experiences of oppression, poverty, and injustice, and educates Presbyterians about the impact of these issues.

This year’s OGHS theme is “You Shall Be Called Repairers of the Breach,” from Isaiah 58. There are several ways to contribute to this offering: a) through the congregation using the enclosed envelope; b) online at pcusa.org/give-oghs; or c) through a check sent to:

Presbyterian Church (USA) One Great Hour of Sharing PO Box 643700

Pittsburg, PA 15264-3700

Received during the season of Lent, each gift to OGHS helps to improve the lives of people in very challenging situations. The Offering provides us a way to share God’s love with our neighbors in need. OGHS is the single, largest way that Presbyterians come together every year to work for a better world. Our offerings will be dedicated on Palm Sunday, April 10th. Please prayerfully consider making a contribution to this important offering.

Blessings to all during this Lenten season. With love in Christ,

Tamra Hollenbeck OGHS Coordinator
