A More Light Congregation

Bethany Presbyterian Church

The local community is invited to be with us as we commemorate and celebrate Holy Week at Bethany Presbyterian Church in San Bruno. All people, of every faith journey, are welcome at Bethany.

Palm Sunday (March 25, 10:00 a.m.) commemorates Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem before he was betrayed and crucified. We will celebrate with the waving of palm branches and the singing of joyous hymns as we remember Jesus’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem. The service will continue as we turn our focus from joy to foreboding as we enter into Holy Week.

Our Good Friday Service (March 30, 7:00 p.m.) will be a unique drama/service written by Rev. Richard Pyke and enacted by members of the Bethany community.

Easter Sunrise (April 1, 6:30 a.m.) is held in the Sunrise area above and to the west of the church parking lot. On Easter morning, you are invited to join with the early risers up on the hill at Bethany for the annual Sunrise Service.  This service has become a favorite tradition for those who participate, and it helps to heighten the sense of wonder and amazement that the disciples must have felt when they first realized that Jesus was no longer in the tomb! Music will be provided by some of the Prayz musicians, and participants are encouraged to dress warmly and/or bring blankets to ward off the morning chill. Following the service there will be a Sunrise brunch in the sanctuary, complete with hot drinks, fruit, and various types of sticky rolls and Easter treats.

10 a.m. Easter worship service Hallelujah!! Christ is Risen! He is risen indeed! With these words we acknowledge the joy and the excitement that rings out on this day of Resurrection. Christians around the world celebrate Easter with songs of praise and prayers of thanksgiving, and Bethany is no exception! The congregation will be invited to witness to the glory and the strength that is found in our relationship to Jesus Christ, our Risen Lord. Worship will be followed by a time of fellowship and a special Easter reception. Please invite your family and friends to participate in this very special worship experience!

Easter Egg Hunt (approximately 11:00) A children‘s egg hunt will be held immediately following worship in the Healing Garden and its surrounds, and all are welcome to participate in that event. This is an excellent opportunity to invite any of the children in your life - including those who might be in the older youth category who might help shepherd some of the younger hunters - to enjoy some fun and exploration on the church grounds. All are welcome!! Please invite your children, grandchildren, and neighbors to take part in this rite of Spring.
