Church Committees & LeadershipThe members of Bethany Presbyterian Church are active in the governance, administration and ministries of the church. Many members find their service on one or more of the committees of the church to be a fulfilling part of their spiritual journey as well as a wonderful way to get to know other members. Listed below are the primary congregational Boards and Committes of the church. The SessionThis board is comprised of elders elected by the congregation for 3-year terms to be the spiritual leaders and to oversee and supervise the church’s program, ministry, mission and stewardship. The DeaconsThis Board is responsible for the work of empathy, witness, and service after the example of Jesus Christ for the Church. Their focus is in teaching charity, helping the friendless, and showing those in need the love and justice of Jesus Christ. Deacons are elected to 3-year terms. The Nominating CommitteeThis committee is responsible for developing a slate of officers (edlers and deacons) each year, which is presented to the congregation for election to serve as church officers. They are responsible for replacing vacancies as needed during the year. This group is elected by the congregation and reports directly to the congregation. The Pastor Nominating CommitteeThis committee, elected by the congregation, is tasked with the search for the next pastor. The committee prepares a Church Information Form, moves it through the approval process, studies resumes received from interested pastors and ultimately presents a nominee to the congregation.

They supervise the regular workdays of the church and oversee the regular maintenance crews in the church. This committee is chaired by an Elder and reports to Session. They oversee the work of the treasurer and prepare a monthly financial statement to the Session for approval. The Trustees also serve as the Gifts & Memorials committee and, as such, are responsible for receiving and directing the disposition of memorial and gift money given to the church. They recommend to the Session a list of uses for the funds and oversee the purchase of items for the church. This committee also develops the mission projects of the church locally and around the world. They inform the congregation about mission work and encourage the congregation to support the mission of the church. They also develop the stewardship campaign of the church and receive the pledges each year that support the mission and ministry of the church. The Outreach CommitteeThis committee is responsible for creating and implementing programs to bring new people to the church and integrate new members into the life of the church. They keep the active and inactive membership roll of the church and work with inactive members. The committee also engages in study and advocacy of issues in society related to our Christian lives, including human rights, hunger, homelessness, peacemaking, health and welfare issues. They provide the congregation with forums on issues and other ways of being involved in social issues relevant to the church. The Parish Life CommitteeThis committee is responsible for planning and implementing community events for the fellowship of the church. It reports directly to the session.
